They should be able to weld any metal you throw at them, using any process such as GTAW/TIG, GMAW/MIG, SMAW/Stick and OXY-FUEL, following the secret welding rulebook (aka Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), in accordance with applicable welding codes, such as AWS D1.1 Structural Weld Code- Steel, AWS D1.2 Structural Weld Code-Aluminum, AWS D1.6 Structural Weld Code-Stainless Steel, etc.)
Practice Makes Perfect: Just like you wouldn't trust a baker who's never touched flour, these guys put their welders through regular tests using a six month reevaluation on all qualifications they hold, to make sure their skills are sharp. They even have official report cards (aka WPQR's) to prove it!
The Quality Control Boss: Every good kitchen has a head chef, right? Metalwork is no different. Look for a Quality Manager who's basically the welding Gandalf, who holds an American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI) credential, keeping an eagle eye on everything making sure every weld is a work of art. Safety First, Fun Second: You wouldn't play football without a helmet, would you? Same with welding! Make sure the metal fabricator puts safety first, protecting their workers providing the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) to minimize exposure to hazards that cause workplace injuries, and ensuring your project is built to last.
